| Here in the U.S. Patricia Routledge is well known for her work in "Keeping Up Appearances", so it is a bit of a surprise to discover the depth of her dramatic abilities. The recent Hetty Wainthrop series is a good example, as is the one woman play "A Woman of No Importance" that is half of this audio tape. It really is the story of a woman of no particular importance to the rest of the world, except that thru her life she manages to make the world a better place. Forty Years On is very funny, but despite the big names (Sir John Gielgud, Paul Eddington, Alan Bennet, Dorothy Reynolds, etc.) I thought it wasn't as powerful as the Patricia Routledge performance. |
