The show's former editor Richard Marson is an insightful author who has sourced many photographs never seen before, as well as familiar shots of well-remembered moments.
Tensions between presenters are not shirked, but neither are they sensationalised and the demanding challenges the programme set those involved are very clear. For the majority of those who chose to present it, Blue Peter owned their lives. Some, like Mark Curry, were strong enough to negotiate independent terms and retain a life outside BP, others, like Katy Hill, disappeared off the radar once their involvement with the show was over.
If you remember something being a feature of the show, this book mentions it - the Nuremburg crib and Advent crown at Christmas, Joey and Barney the ill-fated parrots, and the boxes for the Year 2000 are all recaptured here, along with many other great moments.
A wonderful book for anyone who enjoyed this iconic programme over the last fifty years. I won my copy in a competition (thanks, TV Cream) and when it arrived I finally felt like a badge winner... if you were one of the millions who never got one too, this would be a lovely consolation prize!
Sincerest thanks to the author- Richard Marson, not Biddy Baxter, Amazon!- for a fine job that hasn't let fans down at all, and good wishes to him for the future. |
