Not quite as useful as it seems

I found this book useful for a quick reference and as a starting point for different techniques, but she does make it look very easy. As a self-taught beginner I found that there wasn't quite enough information to get the process right in practice and I've frequently had to cross-reference with other books. The themes section at the back is a nice idea, and the pieces are beautiful and inspiring, but they are all made by highly experienced designers and way out of the ability league of the beginners that the book seems to be aimed at.

This book takes a look at all the different techniques involved in Jewellery making, including step-by-step working pictures to help you through. Not only does it explain each technique in detail but it also shows you the tools you need and how to use them. I like this book as it not only goes through a wide range of techniques but also includes a section which shows pieces of jewellery and how the techniques have been used.

This book is well written and it's a very picturesque encyclopedia. Not too technical but still very informative with the author's step by step format. Those of you who are pursuing Jewlery as a hobby or a career will want to add this book to your library.

Great illustrations & details

The author includes a wide variety of jewelry making techniques primarily dealing with metalsmithing. Full color pictures wonderfully illustrate each section. Simple wire projects, such as making jump rings to more advanced techniques such as inlaying are shown and described with enough detail to understand, but not overwhelm the reader. I'd recommend this book for the beginner who wants to learn about jewelry making, or for those who just want to learn more about jewelry making. Also included is a Themes section of artistic jewelry that will inspire you.
