Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com millanaise review | Customer Rating: | | This boook provides a detailed analysis of the principles in the criminal law, and is an invaluable addition to my current library of legal texts. Ashworth writes this in a coherent and logical structutre which is easily accessible to new comers to the studies of law. In essence this book will provide you with an insight into the complexities of the criminal law, and provide the reader with a basic foundation of general understanding within this difficult topic. | Good enough for the House of Lords. | Customer Rating: | This is far more than just another introductory book, as can be seen from the fact that has been referred to in judgements from the Law Lords of the Appellate Commitee of the House of Lords. ( For example, see Lord Steyn's judgement in Woolin, where he refers to Andrew Ashworth in two places, including a reference to page 172 of this book. )
This is a well written book from a highly regarded legal mind. Ashworth has done cutting edge work on sentencing, omissions and is the Vinerian Professor of English Law at Oxford University.
My only criticism is that some of the philosophical discussions in this book can be a bit daunting to a newcomer. I would suggest that you "cheat" a little and read this book along with one of the excellent books by Jonathan Herring. | Wow its spanking brilliant | Customer Rating: | | This book is an excellent resource for any criminal law undergraduate. It is written in both a critical and widely discursive style. I have found it invaluable. The treatment of the underlying principles of criminal law was extremely useful when preparing for the essay exam questions. Wicked up the staines massif.... |
