Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com The Barron Strikes Again!! | Customer Rating: | Have you met Tom Barron? I was lucky enough to attend one of his final lecture seminars and as a result I passed my Ospre Part 1 Inspectors a couple of years ago. Tom has a very unique style of teaching which is portrayed in this book and is a must-buy if you are struggling to retain all the information provided in Blackstones.
Well worth the money, but I would advise you purchase this title as a supplement to Blackstones. | Read this and passed 1st time. | Customer Rating: | | I was left with little time to revise for the last Part 1 Sergeants exam due to problems outside work. I read this book and only this book in the 8 days leading up to the exam and passed first time. I wouldn't advise doing it this way, you should use Blackstones and prepare properly but nevertheless it is a fantastic revision aid which cuts down on some of the long-winded explanations given in other text books. | Can only ever be supplementary | Customer Rating: | | This is a barely adequate SUPPORTING manual to assist with last minute revision but will never be a substitute for the Blackstones Manuals. If it's used in this way, the simplistic style will prove misleading and the commentary in places is actually incorrect. I have it... I use it... but I don't rate it. | A good adjunct to other revision aids | Customer Rating: | This book will not pass you your Part 1 Sergeant's or Inspector's exam, but it will certainly help enormously. The exam syllabus is taken from the Blackstones manuals and these should be the primary source; however the crammer is a great précis, driving home the points read in "longhand" in Blackstones and in a concise and easily-carried form! Do not use the crammer on its own - but use it in conjunction with other books and study aids and it will help you.
I used the crammer, Blackstones Manuals, Blackstones Q&A and a software package (ICAL) and passed first time with over 70%. Use as many neural pathways as possible and then if one little neural line of dominos fizzles out there are other pathways to continue the task (if that makes sense!).
Of course, nobody should buy the 2006 version which is out of date now via SOCPA 2005, but when the next one emerges I'd heartily recommend it. | A must have book for anyone taking the exams | Customer Rating: | Anybody with the slightest bit of intelligence will realise that as SOCAP was introduced into the exam system months after the syllabus was set and after this book was published that it wouldn't be included in this year's edition!
This book explains everything in a clear and concise way. The use of flowcharts for the more complicated laws is a godsend in helping to decipher Blackstones. If there is an easy way through the exams then owning this book is part of it. |
