This is a very interesting and enjoyable history of English Literature and is on 4 CDs.

There are over 100 excerpts taken from great works of literature and these are read or recited by Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, Jonathan Keeble, Teresa Gallagher and Anton Lesser.

CD 1 Includes Chaucer, Sir Thomas Malory, Spencer, Shakespeare and Donne and others

CD 2 Includes more Shakespeare, Donne, Milton, Defoe, Pope, Swift and Fielding and others

CD 3 Includes Blake, Wordsworth, Austen, Keats, Dickens, The Brontes, George Eliot, Rossetti, Browning, Kipling, Hardy and Hopkins and others

CD 4 Includes Henry James, Conrad, H G Wells, James Joyce, George Orwell, Graham Greene, William Golding and others.

The discussion isn't pitched at a very advanced level but the talk and the readings nevertheless give one a good overview of the history of English literature and the readings are particularly enjoyable.
